Hidden Hitch

Hidden Hitch

After doing hours of body work to the floor of my bed, I opted to get a hidden hitch for my truck.  This way if I decide to go to a show that I'll need some packing for, I can tow a small trailer to keep from scratching the bed.  Installing these hitches is very easy.  First just make sure that you have your bumper on and the license backing plate attached when you install this hitch.  If you don't you may have the hitch too rearward and there won't be room for your bumper.

The first step is to put the hitch on a jack and raise it up to the truck.  Once its pushed against the truck, you can start measuring to make sure its square.  Measure each side, both front and rear, between the hitch and frame.  This will ensure it is centered and square.  Also check the clearance between the front of the hitch and your bumper.  Next just mark and drill your holes.  Some of the holes were over top other holes already existing in the frame.  This isn't the best thing, but only one of my bolts were like this.  The provided washers are plenty big to solve the situation.  Once the hitch is bolted in place, remove the jack and trace the receiver outline to the license plate bracket.  Then remove it and cut a hole where you traced.  Reinstall the license plate bracket and your done.
