Audio System

Audio System

The first step I've taken to installing a premium audio system is making room for speakers.  Now wanting to destroy the original look of my interior, I've decided not to cut holes in my doors or kick  panels for speakers.  Instead I'm taking the more conservative method of relocating the gas tank.

To house my new speakers I'm going to build a custom speaker box that will fill in the space left by the gas tank.  Hopefully this box will be able to utilize the current mounting spots for the old gas tank.  To help make the most of my speakers I'm covering the cab in Dynamat.  In the picture above I'm covering the  back of the cab in the Original Dynamat.  Since there is no source of heat coming from the rear, I'm saving the few extra dollars by using the cheaper stuff there.  Pictured below, the firewall and floor are covered in Xtreme Dynamat.  Using headers, tightly mounted 3" exhaust and having a pretty hot motor, having the best heat protection is a premium.

I'm still waiting for the rest of my dynamat to be delivered.  Once I have that I'll finish covering the floor.  As you can see in the picture above, I have left my original radio opening along.  Keeping with my idea of having an original appearing interior, a dummy original AM-FM radio will be installed.  A separate panel is being made right now to be installed in the glove box.  In here a  MP3 player will be installed.  Using a  MP3 player with a remote, I can listen to around 300-400 songs without ever having to lean over to touch the radio.  The speakers to fill my box are still  undecided.  Two subwoofers will be placed in the box behind each seat.  Also, at least one amplifier will also be housed in this box.
